As I mentioned in my last post I recorded the Shadywoods narration, I turned that, some intro and outro music and sound effects into something akin to a ‘radio play’. Judging from the audio alone I’m quite happy with the outcome, the episode is 22 minutes long as planned.
There’s been a lot of things going on at work which have kept me busy and at times exhausted, and also kept me from working as much as I wanted on Shadywoods, so there’s been little progress in March unfortunately.
Backgrounds, Schmackgrounds
I have been in an endless loop of drawing background after background after background for the establishing shot of the main location: Findelholtz Castle and I’m still not entirely happy with the location. Let’s face it: I truly suck at background art it never looks the way I want it to. Here’s a few examples of the stuff I drafted. I’m currently torn between two backdrops I can’t decide on, and two external castle designs which I both like.
On the upside the basic layout of the castle internally is fixed, I have floor plans and pretty much figured out how the rooms are laid out, so the backgrounds for the rooms within the castle should be completed much quicker than this nightmare.
Scripts
I’ve also been a busy bee writing scripts with the help of a friend, Greg Wong, from London. He has helped to greatly improve my writing by reviewing my drivel, streamlining dialogues, making sure the stories are coherent and decently structured. Thanks to his help the script for episode 2 of Shadywoods is complete and the script for episode 3 is also very close to completion.
On a side note we’re also planning to reboot Phungus & Mowld in a slightly different format (with the same characters of course), but that’s for another blog entry…
