Phungus & Mowld December Update

Dec 31, 2019 | Phungus & Mowld

Finally things are moving forward. The first three minutes of the final pilot episode are animated, narrated and have sound effects. I might still have to finalise some audio effects, but basically it’s in the can.

The animatic for the whole episode will be done some time this week, which will allow me to work on finalising the rest of Episode 1.

I’ve made a quick & dirty intro with the final theme music (also put together by me with GarageBand). I might or might not use the intro in the pilot. Normally you’d put together some of the most interesting scenes of the current season, but since there is no footage of the current season I had to make something generic.

I was hoping to finalise Episode 1 in December, but this is not realistic. Although I’m currently on holiday and can work almost full time on this project, it just takes much more time than I anticipated. Hopefully as I get more routine, I can pick up pace and churn out more stuff in a shorter time.

Scripts

The script for episode 2 is almost done and I think it’s actually wittier than the pilot. Maybe the characters are “settling in” and I have a better feel for their attitudes, quirks and moods. As soon as the script is done I’ll record the narration, so that I can put together a rough animatic and move things forward.

Other Plans

I’m planning to submit this damn thing, whenever it’s finished to several animation film festivals. Just to see how quickly I get rejected. I’m surely not an experienced animator and my animation work has tons of rough edges, but I think the story and dialogues are decent, so maybe someone might still think it’s worthwhile.
